What does FLUORSPAR (fluorite) play in the steel manufacturering process?

FLUORSPAR (fluorite) acts as a flux in the steel manufacturering process.

FLUORSPAR (fluorite) acts as a flux in the steel manufacturering process, and the main component of fluorite itself is calcium fluoride. Fluorite also contains components such as SiO2 and S; after being added into the furnace, the melting point is lowered and low melting point compounds are generated, thereby improving the fluidity of the slag. FLUORSPAR (fluorite) has a fast fluxing effect and a short time. However, excessive use of fluorite will form serious foaming slag, leading to splashing, and at the same time aggravating the corrosion of the furnace lining and polluting the environment. Therefore, the amount of fluorite added per ton of steel should be strictly controlled.

Fluorite plays a great role in promoting steel manufacturering, shortening the smelting time and removing inclusions in the steel.
